a fully digital approach. He shared

contrast, the digital approach overcomes
these challenges with a tradeoff
in energy efficiency and area.
Concluding his lecture, a vibrant
discussion between Prof. Seok and
his audience compared the merits of
analog versus digital-based methods
of in-memory computing.

Prof. Willy Sansen (KU Leuven)
gave the opening talk of the evening
(Figure 2). As the first European
president of the SSCS, he shared
his experiences with IEEE and the
SSCS and showed his very first IC
designs from back when transistors
were still 10 μm long! Prof. Tom Lee
(Stanford University) followed with
an engaging and informative talk
about the history of the transistor,
highlighting the key individuals
and ideas that led to the first
IEEE SOLID-STATE CIRCUITS MAGAZINE
