Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)
as well as five ESSCIRC best papers sent
for presentation at A-SSCC 2021.
We include a few lines about the
interactive conference week. On 13
September, after an official opening
by the organizers and SSCS and EDS
presidents, there were three plenary
speakers from industry, research
institutes, and academia. The opening
talk, by Dr Joël Hartmann, executive
vice president, digital and smart
power technology and digital front
end manufacturing, STMicroelectronics,
covered AI adoption for edge
data processing. It discussed the massive
entry of AI solutions into industrial
chips, with an opening about
new dedicated silicon technologies,
such as fully depleted SOI, with
embedded NVM using phase change
memory solutions. Dr.
Jean-René
Léquepeys, deputy director and chief
technology officer, CEA-Leti, continued
in the same vein, with a research
institute view, where the solutions of
tomorrow have been tackled for massive
computing while limiting power
consumption. His talk, providing a
medium-term perspective, debated
five potential improvement levels
(from devices to systems) that can be
used toward that end.
Finally, we heard a long-term
vision from Dr. Jan M. Rabaey, professor
emeritus, Graduate School
Electrical Engineering and Computer
Sciences, University of California,
