IEEE CAS-EDS-SSCS Wuhan Joint Chapter and Huazhong University
of Science and Technology Organize Two Technical Talks
The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society
(CAS), the IEEE Electron Devices
Society (EDS), and the IEEE Solid-State
Circuits Society (SSCS) Wuhan Joint
Chapter, along with the School of
Optical and Electronic Information,
Huazhong University of Science and
Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China,
held two technical talks in October.
They were both held in the New Optical
and Electronic Building, School of
Optical and Electronic Information
at HUST.
On 16 October 2021, associate
professor Xueqing Li from Tsinghua
University was invited by Prof. Chao
Wang, chair of the IEEE CAS-EDS-SSCS
Wuhan Joint Chapter, to give an

academic talk titled " Emerging Ferroelectric
Memory and Computing
for Intelligent Applications " to the
local Chapter. Prof. Li analyzed the
importance of embedded memory
and computing in memory for artificial
intelligence, from the demand
of computing performance beyond
hardware's capability to emerging
hardware solutions, including
ferroelectric devices. Next, Prof. Li
described the mechanism of ferroelectric
devices in detail with a vivid
presentation and illustrated the advantages
of ferroelectric devices in
terms of scalability, nonvolatility,
low power consumption, and flexibility
of computing scenarios. However,
ferroelectric devices are still
facing some challenges that need to
be solved, such as reading and writing
disturb issues, limited endurance,
and switching stochasticity. Prof. Li
introduced a novel solution to solve
the endurance issue of ferroelectric
field-effect transistors (FeFETs), that
is, anti-FeFET technology. Anti-FeFET
solutions not only improve the endurance
by 100 times but also improve
the efficiency of the refresh
