Patent Reviews
(continued from p. 14)
A lesson to be learned from this is that it is important to be sure that the various ways the technology can
be commercially exploited are considered when entering into standard-essential licensing agreements. That
can increase the likelihood that every contributor to the
end result of meeting the specification will be required
to participate in the licensing program. Furthermore,
there is no substitute for proof that the actions of the
party accused of infringing (and its customer in the case
of contributory or induced infringement) do actually infringe. Relying on a "they must be infringing" inference
is not enough.

professional development) but also to promote the profession. As I showed in the previous examples, start your
speech with something that will appeal to the other person's
self-interest, such as the statement about designing electronics that saves him or her money on an energy bill. Once
you have their attention, take that opportunity to tell them
how power electronics is making their life and everyone's
life a little better in many different ways. In that way, we can
promote our profession and ourselves and let world know
that there are people working hard on a sustainable future.
