Chapter News An Invitation to PRECEDE 2015 P redictive control has become a powerful and attractive alternative to linear control and modulation for the control of power electronic converters and drives. The advances in modern microprocessors and their processing capability at low cost have made the implementation of this control technique attractive. The use of predictive control offers a number of advantages, including ■ a very intuitive approach ■ no need for linear controllers and modulators ■ easy inclusion of nonlinearities and restrictions. Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/MPEL.2015.2421752 Date of publication: 24 June 2015 Interest in this topic has steadily increased during the last several years and has been recognized by IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics in several special sections dedicated to predictive control of power electronics and drives. We are pleased to invite you to the Third IEEE International Symposium on Predictive Control of Electrical Drives and Power Electronics (PRECEDE 2015), a forum for international experts to discuss questions and con- cepts concerning predictive control. PRECEDE 2015 will be held in Valparaiso, Chile, 5-6 October at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. The aim of the symposium is to attract researchers in this field into a fruitful interchange of experiences. Sponsored by the IEEE and IEEE Power Electronics Society, PRECEDE 2015 also has the following technical sponsors: ■ AC3E ■ Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.
