Cheongju, South Korea. Indium recycling is a factor often missed by
economists studying the availability
of materials, which is why the firm

manufactures high-purity (6N and
higher) indium ingots (Figure 2), which
are used for making III/V crystalline
wafers and substrates, such as indium
phosphide (InP) and indium arsenide
(InAs). InP laser devices are extensively used in fiber optic communications for backhaul 5G.
Indium metal's softness and low
melting point make it ideal for lowtemperature soldering and other
applications. In electronics, it can
be found as a component in some

solder alloys, but it also plays an
important role in transparent conductive oxide layers in displays, such
as indium tin oxide, and also in III/V
semiconductors. Ultrahigh-purity indium trichloride and gallium trichloride
are manufactured at the company's
facilities in central New York. These
chemicals are precursors to the organic
chemical-vapor-deposited compounds
used in many In and Ga semiconductor
