T

he fourth IEEE Workshop on
Wide Bandgap Power Devices
and Applications (WiPDA)
will be held on 7-9 November 2016
in Fayetteville, Arkansas. WiPDA is a
fast-growing yearly event with a focus
on wide-bandgap (WBG) device development, application, and related topics. This workshop provides a forum
for device scientists, circuit designers,
and application engineers from the
IEEE Power Electronics Society
(PELS) and IEEE Electron Devices
Society to share technology updates,
research findings, development experience, and potential applications.
The number of WiPDA attendees
grew from 130 to more than 200 in the
last three years, and the attendees are
from multiple disciplines, including
materials science, device fabrication,
and device application. Topics of
interests at WiPDA include
■ heteroepitaxial and bulk materials
growth
■ gate dielectrics and surface passivation
■ device structures and fabrication
techniques
■ device characterization and
modeling
■ very high-efficiency or compact
converters
■ safe operating areas of WBG devices, including short circuit, spike,
and transient tolerance
