The IEEE Joint IAS/PELS SB Chapter at NUS is relatively new. It was
first started as an IAS SB in 2015,
which then joined the PELS community in 2016.

and Singapore industries attended
this seminar.
In April, the joint IAS/PELS Singapore Chapter, in collaboration
with the IEEE Power & Energy Society's (PES) Singapore Chapter, the
IEEE PES SB at NUS, the Green Energy Management and Smart Grid
Research Center (GEMS), and the

NUS Department of ECE, hosted
seminars "Energy Management in
Smart Distribution Systems" and
"Solar Power in Smart Grid Environment" by Dr. HSVS Kumar Nunna, a research fellow at GEMS, and
Dr. Thomas Reindel, deputy chief
executive officer of the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore,
respectively. Approximately 30 participants, from both industries and
academic institutions, attended
the seminars.
In May 2016, the Joint Singapore
Chapter launched a seminar series
for sharing research information
among the members of the Joint IAS/
PELS SB Chapter and students and
staff of the NUS Department of ECE's
Power and Energy Systems Group.
In this biweekly series, researchers
share information about their work.
In these sessions, students and
staff from the power and energy systems area-Binita Sen, Dr. Dastagiri
Reddy (Figure 2), Dr. Prasanth Thumula, Dr. Priyesh Chauhan, Saurabh
Bhandari, and Sobrayen Lingeshwaran (Figure 3)-discussed their
research on various topics, including
power electronics for smart grid,
power electronics solutions for ship
and marine propulsion, and multilevel inverters.
"We are starting to develop a good
network of sharing technical information among the small student community here at NUS, and are striving
to develop it further," said IEEE Joint
IAS/PELS NUS SB Chapter Chair
Jayantika Soni.
