This challenge is oriented as a technical event for young people, ranging

from high school to graduate students.
UBTECH Education provided its
commercial humanoid robot, Alpha
1P, as the basic platform. All participants had the opportunity to implement and transform their ideas on this

platform. More than 800 students registered for the contest, but only 26 teams
were able to participate in the final event,
held in Shenzhen, China, on 4 August
2017. The 26 teams-from mainland
China, Hong Kong, and Macau-
showed off their innovative ideas and
technologies on site. The judges included Prof. Hua Li from the Institute
of Computing Technology, Chinese
Academy of Sciences, Beijing, who
also serves as the IEEE Beijing Section
chair; Prof. Xiaorui Zhu from Harbin
Institute of Technology, Shenzhen,
China, who is also chair of the IEEE
RAS Guangdong Chapter; Prof. Xinyu
Wu from Shenzhen Institutes of
Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Wei Wang, chief
executive officer of UBTECH Education, China (Figure 5). Team ARM
from Macau University of Science and
Technology, China, shown in Figure 6,
won the challenge, combining the
humanoid robot and virtual reality for
different functional scenarios.
