localization and mapping (SLAM) with
Prof. Adams (Universidad de Chile)
delivering a presentation, "Motivation
for Random Finite Sets in Autonomous
Robotics" (Figure 3), and Dr. Leung
delivering two presentations, "An Introduction to the Robotic Operating System" and "Random Finite Set (RFS)
SLAM" (Figure 4). FISST tools in the
form of an RFS-SLAM ROS library
were demonstrated during the program.
These include implementations of RFS
filters for jointly estimating feature
map cardinality and state in SLAM
problems while circumventing fragile
data-association routines.
During another tutorial, Prof. Vo
presented an overview of the stochastic
geometric approach to multiobject systems and outlined recent developments
in areas such as sensor control, computer vision, and field robotics (Figure 5).
He provided the mathematical, Bayesianbased background behind various RFS
filters, including the probability hypothesis density, multi-Bernoulli, and
finally the generalized labeled multiBernoulli (GLMB) filters now used in
many real-world vision, robotics, and
tracking applications.
The workshop concluded with various presentations of vision-, robotics-,
and tracking-based technologies as well
as a tour of the AMTC.
