using a data set with higher NMI values. However, the performance of the algorithm cannot be improved by adding a large
number of derived attributes to the data set [3] or sampling
the data set [4]. Besides, the number of training parameters
increases with the inclusion of additional attributes in the data
set. To avoid overfitting, the number of training samples should
be kept sufficiently large compared to the number of training
parameters. Therefore, the user should select most relevant
predictor attributes for the working data set based on heuristics or a feature selection algorithm. For example, the selection of relevant attributes has been carried out using the relief
algorithm for the lithology class prediction using seismic and

petrophysical attributes in [10] and [11]. In a similar study [12],
permeability has been modeled using features extracted from a
section image of the rock.
In summary, preprocessing contributes to an RC framework by preparing the data set for prediction in two ways: first,
integrating and analyzing geologic, seismic, and engineering
data with sparsely available well logs; then, carrying out interpolation, regularization, and normalization. For a particular RC
framework, all available preprocessing steps may not always be
necessary. The purpose of RC is to relate all available information in the best possible way by means of proper preprocessing
and model building.
