Isscc 2017: Intelligent chips for a smart World

A

Advancements in solid-state circuits
and systems continue to propel the
ongoing fusion between the physical
and virtual worlds. With the resulting
growth in sensor deployment, data
traffic, and data center workloads, future systems must employ "intelligent"
chips at all levels of the system stack to
improve the efficiency at which we acquire, network, store, and process information. Modern applications centered
around the Internet of Everything and
real-time data analytics are driving circuit and system designers toward new
ways of leveraging the immense device
density and processing power of modern technology.
The 2017 International Solid-State
Circuits Conference (ISSCC 2017) will
showcase numerous innovations to
fuel further progress in this development toward a truly smart and interconnected world. The conference will
be held in the San Francisco Marriott
Marquis, 5-9 February 2017.
The plenary session on Monday,
6 February, will feature four distinguished invited speakers:
■ Cliff Hou, vice president, Research
and Development, TSMC, Taiwan,
will present his vision in "A Smart
Design Paradigm for Smart Chips"
and outline how the design and system requirements of new market opportunities (the Internet of Things,
wearables, data centers, and automotive) require a new design paradigm
and a strong partner ecosystem.

Ahmad Bahai, chief technology officer, Texas Instruments, United
States, will give his insights in "Dynamics of Exponentials in Circuits
and Systems" and explain how many
exponentials, including CMOS scaling, yield efficiency of semiconductor manufacturing, bandwidth efficiency of communication systems
and network capacity, have come together to accelerate the impressive
advances of electronics.
Jonathan Rothberg, founder, 4Catalyzer and adjunct professor of
genetics, Yale School of Medicine,
United States, will present "The
D evelopment of High-Speed DNA
