than 20 years later. At UCLA, Razavi
started his own research program and
wrote a textbook on RF microelectronics. This book has been translated
to multiple languages and has been
cited approximately 4,500 times.
In 1999, Razavi published Design
of Analog CMOS Integrated Circuits,
a textbook dedicated to modern
analog design. The book received
the McGraw-Hill First Edition of the
Year Award. Often called the bible
of analog design, this book has
been cited 8,000 times and has been
translated into Chinese, Japanese,
and Korean.

With the demand for high-speed optical transceivers growing, Razavi published a textbook, Design of Integrated
Circuits for Optical Communications, in
2003. In 2008, Razavi published his
fifth book, the undergraduate text Fundamentals of Microelectronics.
Recognizing the impact of massive
online open courses and online learning, in 2014 Razavi produced a series of
videos on undergraduate electronics.
The videos have been viewed 600,000
times. Currently, Prof. Razavi is working on a series of short online videos
for the SSCS called SSCSx.

merous research and teaching awards,
Razavi has graduated more than 20
Ph.D. students and taught short courses at major conferences including the
International Solid-State Circuits Conference, Custom Integrated Circuits Conference, and VLSI Symposium.

of our community at UCLA, within SSCS,
within IEEE, and around the globe," Razavi

Alvin Loke is a long-time IEEE SolidState Circuits Society (SSCS) member. He first became involved with
the Society 15 years ago, where he was
a pivotal part of the SSCS Denver
Chapter. Since then, Alvin has made

Why Did You Join SSCS?
I joined the Solid-State Circuits Society
(SSCS) in 2002. At the time, I didn't know
much about SSCS as I was an IEEE Elec-

tron Device Society member only. As
my career transitioned from technology development to circuit design,
it was the natural step to join the
SSCS. At the time, I was interested
in getting involved with the SSCS Denver Chapter in Fort Collins, Colorado,
which was just formed thanks to the
initiative of founding Chapter Chair
