is connected between a secondary
coil of the output transformer of the
amplifier circuit and the primary coil
of the input transformer of the amplifier circuit." [See Figure 1(b).]
The reemergence of silicon-based
millimeter (mm)-wave ICs in radio
transceivers due to an ever-increasing demand for bandwidth in high
data rate wireless applications has
recreated great interest in neutralization techniques in the context of
low-noise wideband amplifier design.

Tuned Amplifiers
The baseband signal associated
with a mobile user in wireless transceivers is bandlimited. Therefore,
the RF modulated signal has a bandpass characteristic. To amplify this
band-pass signal, while filtering the

undesired out-of-band interference,
radio-frequency (RF) amplifiers employ a bandpass filter (BPF) tuned
at the RF signal's carrier frequency.
Figure 2(a) shows the general block
diagram of an RF amplifier with a
BPF load. The input/output matching circuits are used to facilitate
maximum power transfer from the
source to the amplifier's input and
from the amplifier's output to the
load, respectively.
A simple BPF circuit is realized
with a lossy LC tank circuit where
the loss is represented by the inductors' Q-factor (Q L = R L / (L~ 0)) . The
core amplifier, in general, is not unilateral where the parasitic capacitors
of the transistor(s) contribute to nonzero reverse transmission. In practice, it is commonly known that this

nonzero reverse transmission may
cause stability issue in a tuned amplifier. To find out why this is the case,
we study the input admittance of a
generic tuned amplifier in Figure 2(b).
The core amplifier is represented by
its two-port model, depicted in Figure 2(c), where the voltage across its
input parasitic capacitance controls
a voltage-controlled current source,
G m Vi . The output parasitic capacitance C O of this amplifier is absorbed
in the load capacitance to constitute
an overall capacitance, C, as indicated in Figure 2(c). Solving the I-V
