The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites nominations
and applications for the position of Chairperson at the rank of Full Professor with
tenure. We are seeking a visionary leader who will be committed to growing the
research, education, and outreach programs of the Department. The ECE Department
currently has over 450 undergraduates, 180 graduate students, and 20 tenure/tenuretrack faculty, with 10 new faculty hires anticipated over the next 3 years.
UMass Lowell's location in the high-tech Rte 128/Rte 495 corridor surrounding
Boston has resulted in historically strong ties to industry. This region is known for
both industry leaders and rapidly growing start-ups in fields such as defense, energy,
telecommunications and networks, and biotechnology and life sciences. Current ECE
research focus areas include: sensors, biomedical engineering/assistive-technology,
materials, energy and power systems, electromagnetics, and computer architecture.
ECE faculty also contribute to many interdisciplinary Centers, including the NSF
Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing, the Submillimeter-wave Technology
Laboratory and the Photonics Center, all of which receive major funding from DOD
and industry. Building on UMass Lowell's national reputation in science, engineering,
and technology, the ECE Department is expected to play a major role in the future
advancement of the University. We are looking for a leader who will help establish
this vision, foster collaboration and growth, and obtain resources to move the
Department to the next level.
