The Argonne Named Fellowship Program
CHAIR POSITION
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the
University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites nominations
and applications for Chair, a Full Professor position with tenure.
The ECE Department has 21 tenured/tenure track faculty,
including two American Physical Society Fellows. UAH ECE
Research strengths include communications, signal processing,
controls, high performance computing, cybersecurity, embedded
systems, optics/plasmonics, nanodevices, and electronic
devices. Current funding comes from both industrial sources
and Federal sources such as DOD, NSF, NASA and USDA. The
ECE Department offers BS, MSE, and PhD degrees in Electrical,
Computer, and Optical Engineering and has 600 undergraduate
and 200 graduate students. As the generation that took us to the
moon retires, this chair has an opportunity to shape the future
of the department and implement a vision within the context of
the university's broad strategic goals. These goals include 1)
increasing student enrollment by 30%, with graduate students
comprising 25 % of the student body, and 2) broadening and
expanding the research portfolio of the university.
The Carnegie Foundation "very high research" designation places
UAH in an elite group of 73 public US universities. The College of
Engineering, the largest of five colleges, houses Chemical, Civil,
Electrical & Computer, Industrial, and Mechanical & Aerospace
departments. The Huntsville area, a national center of aerospace
and high-tech research, ranks high in per capita income in the
Southeast and is home to more than 50 Fortune 500 companies,
the Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology, the NASA Marshall
Space Flight Center, and the Army's Missile Defense Agency,
Material Command, Aviation and Missile Command, and Space
and Missile Defense Command.
The successful candidate must be an internationally known
researcher with significant external funding, have a PhD in
Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field,
and demonstrate effective management and interpersonal skills.
Further, she/he must be deeply committed to all aspects of
education, including student retention and success. Application
materials consisting of 1) a current curriculum vitae, 2) a position
statement highlighting the applicant's qualifications and vision
for the position, and 3) the contact information for at least three
professional references, should be sent to ecesearch@uah.edu.
Though preference will be given to applications submitted before
August 1, 2014, the position will remain open until filled. UAH
is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Consistent
with our core values of integrity, respect, diligence, excellence,
inclusiveness and diversity, the university strongly encourages
applications from members of all under-represented groups.
An offer of employment at the University is contingent upon the
results of a criminal background check.

Argonne National Laboratory is accepting applications for the 2015 Named
Fellowship. Argonne awards these special fellowships internationally on
an annual basis to outstanding doctoral-level scientists and engineers who
are at early points in promising careers. The fellowships are named after
scientific and technical luminaries who have been associated with Argonne
and its predecessors, and the University of Chicago, since the 1940's.
Candidates for these fellowships must display superb ability in scientific
or engineering research, and must show definite promise of becoming
outstanding leaders in the research they pursue. Fellowships are awarded
annually and may be renewed up to three years. The 2015 fellowship
carries a highly competitive salary with an additional allocation research
support and travel. The deadline for submission of application materials
is October 7, 2014.
Applicants should identify an Argonne staff member to sponsor the
nomination. The sponsor could be someone who is already familiar with
your research work and accomplishments through previous collaborations
or professional societies. If you have not yet identified an Argonne
sponsor, visit the detailed websites of the various research efforts at
www.anl.gov/science.
Applications must be submitted online through: http://www.anl.
gov/careers/apply-job. Correspondence and supporting letters of
recommendation should be submitted to Named-Postdoc@anl.gov.
