The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at
Carnegie Mellon has Research Track Faculty Openings.
Exceptional candidates in all areas of Electrical and
Computer Engineering will be given serious consideration.

The College of Engineering and the Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering are both ranked among the top
programs in the United States both at the undergraduate
and graduate level. The faculty has strong ties with many
multidisciplinary centers and institutes such as the Institute
for Complex Engineered Systems (graduated NSF ERC),
Software Engineering Institute, Human Computer Interaction Institute, The Robotics Institute, and the Information
Networking Institute. The department is home to several
multidisciplinary centers and laboratories such as the Data
Storage Systems Center (Graduated NSF ERC), Center for
Silicon System Implementation, Microelectromechanical
Systems Laboratory, SRC Smart Grid Research Center, the
Parallel Data Laboratory, and the Computer Architecture Lab
at Carnegie Mellon. Faculty members in the Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering also have ties and
collaborations with colleagues around the world through a
number of formal research and educational programs. The
department has extensive experimental and computing infrastructure. The department currently maintains state of the art
nanofabrication facilities and will be significantly expanding
these in both capability and scale within the next few years.
Research track faculty members are not required to teach
and may therefore focus exclusively on developing their
leadership within their area of research, developing research
collaborations and supervising PhD students. Occasionally,
research track faculty members may teach if they and the
department feel this would advance their programs. We
expect candidates for a research track position to have a

strong commitment to research. The department is primarily
seeking individuals for faculty positions at the Assistant
Research Professor rank. Applicants must have earned
a doctorate in a related area by the date of appointment.

list of three to five professional references, a statement of
research interests (less than 2 pages), and copies of two
research papers (journal or conference papers). The applicant

Candidates are expected to teach a broad spectrum
of courses in the ECE curricula as well as carry out
scholarly work in their technical area of expertise
which should include at least two of the following:
Computer Engineering position - Advanced
computer architecture, VLSI design, mixed signals,
software engineering, firmware integration, and
embedded systems.
Energy position - Energy conversion and machine
design, energy sources and power plants, transmission and distribution, smart grids, renewable
energy, and power systems modeling and control.
Other duties include student advising and
mentoring, project and thesis supervision, and
university service at all levels. An earned doctorate

The Electrical Engineering Department at the

SEEKS TO HIRE multiple tenure-track faculty members at
the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to start in
Fall 2013. While all areas related to EE are of interest, and

candidates for tenure-track assistant professor positions whose

We seek energetic, innovative faculty members for two
tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in: 1) Computer
Engineering with emphasis in high performance
computing, embedded systems, VLSI design, computer
architecture, or related areas; and 2) Information Theory
and Communications, with additional specialization in a
relevant biomedical engineering area for a ΒΌ-time joint
appointment in Biomedical Engineering and Sciences.
Candidates must have a PhD in Electrical/Computer
Engineering; have excellent communication skills and
strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research
and student mentoring. Successful candidates will
teach undergraduate and graduate courses, seek
research funding, conduct and publish research work,
and supervise student research and entrepreneurial
efforts in our Engineering Clinic sequence. The recent
State designation of Rowan as a research university,
our new medical school and planned biomedical
engineering program will soon allow us to initiate new
research areas and complement existing efforts in
bioengineering and bioinformatics, smart sensors,
smart grid, signal processing, machine learning,
virtual reality, nanotechnology and sustainable design.
