Assistant Professor
of Electrical
Engineering Technology
The Position: The Department of Natural Sciences and Engineering Technology at Point Park
University invites applications for a tenure-track
position as an assistant professor beginning in
the fall of 2015. The successful candidate will
support the department's Bachelor of science
program in electrical engineering technology;
this program, which is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission
of ABET (www.abet.org), has a long history of
preparing its students for successful careers in
industry and government and for further study
in graduate school.
The primary duties of this position are developing
and delivering lecture and laboratory courses in
the electrical engineering technology program.
The successful candidate must possess a
demonstrated ability to communicate complex
technical information clearly and effectively in
oral, written, and digital forms. Currently, the
areas of greatest instructional need are electric
machines, power systems (including both traditional and alternative energy sources), and power
electronics. A willingness to teach in other areas
such as controls, communications, and mathematics is highly desirable. Because the program
serves a large adult student population, courses
are typically offered on an evening and weekend
schedule and the candidate must be available to
teach at these times.
Additional duties of the position include advising
students on academic and career matters, participating in institutional service and governance,
engaging in professional development, and furthering connections between the program and its
external constituencies. An essential component
of institutional service is a commitment to outcomes-based education and participation in
assessment of student learning according to
ABET standards and practices.
The successful candidate must hold an earned
doctoral degree in electrical engineering or a
closely-related area and must have a substantive
record of applying engineering principles in realIEEE
