professor in 2011. His research interests include sociocultural aspects of computer-assisted language learning and learning management systems and the side-effects of information
media. He is concurrently a research associate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Waikato.
Dimitar P. Filev (dfilev@ford.com) is the executive
technical leader of Intelligent Controls, Ford Research &
Innovation Center, Michigan. He conducts research in modeling and control of complex systems, intelligent control,
fuzzy and neural systems, and their applications to automotive engineering. He has published four books and more than
230 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings,
and he holds numerous U.S. and foreign patents. He earned
his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Czech
Technical University in Prague in 1979. He is a Fellow of the
IEEE and the International Fuzzy Systems Association.
