PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Robert Dent
Autumn in the
Northeast U.S.
am writing this message as the leaves
are falling from the
trees. It is Autumn in
the Northeast U.S.A.
This is an indication of the colder
weather in the near future and the
coming of a new year. Appropriately,
this is the ending of my presidency of
a fabulous group of people who are
members of the SSIT. I have been
honored to serve as the President of
SSIT for the 2019-2020 term.
First and foremost, I hope you are
safe and well. I do wish that you and
your loved ones are also safe and
well. The COVID-19 pandemic has
had a large impact on SSIT. The flagship conference, ISTAS 2020, was
converted to a virtual conference for
the November 2020 event. Also, the
2020 Wiener Conference scheduled
for July 2020 was postponed for the
same place in Chennai, India, at the
same time frame in 2021.
I hope you have taken the opportunity to read the recently initiated
I
Transactions on Technology and
Society. This year, 2020 is the inaugural year for the Transactions, and
it is the high quality journal in its
area. Of course, we also continue to
produce the Technology & Society
Magazine. This magazine is a highquality publication of the Society
sent to all SSIT members. I want
to thank Jeremy Pitt as the Editorin-Chief. One big thank you to Terri
Bookman, our Managing Editor, for
her tremendous contributions to the
success of the T&S Magazine. She
has been our Managing Editor for 30
years. I want to personally thank her
for her contributions to the magazine and SSIT.
This year was an election year
for SSIT. I congratulate Heather
Love, Jay Pearlman, and Beth Ann
Schuelke-Leech for their success-

ful election to three-year terms
as voting Members -at-La rge of
the IEEE-SSIT Board of Governors
starting in 2021. Thank you to all
six candidates who ran for election in this year's election. Also, I
thank Charmayne Hughes for her
volunteer spirit having completed
her three-year term as a Memberat-Large in 2020.
I wish my successor, Clint Andrews,
a successful and productive two
years as the SSIT President starting
January 1, 2021. I am sure he will
do well.
