he Society on Social
Implications of Tech-
nology (SSIT) of the
Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engi-
neers (IEEE) seeks applications and
nominations for the position of Edi-
tor-in-Chief of the IEEE Technology
and Society Magazine (T&S) for a
three-year term (once renewable)
beginning January 1, 2018.
T&S Magazine is an award-win-
ning publication with both online
and print circulation distributed to
IEEE SSIT members and affiliates,
research libraries, and other interest-
ed parties. The scope of the magazine
includes environmental, health, and
safety implications of technology;
engineering ethics and professional
responsibility; history of electro-tech-
nology; technical expertise and pub-
lic policy; and social issues related to
energy, information technology, and
telecommunications. The magazine
publishes both general interest arti-
cles (including commentary, reviews,
interviews, and columns) as well as
peer-reviewed scholarly papers.
The Editor-in-Chief has ultimate
responsibility for maintaining the
quantity and quality of the edito-
rial content of the magazine. SSIT
employs and provides the Editor-in-
Chief with the services of a profes-
sional managing editor who works
with and assists the Editor-in-Chief
on editorial matters and who coor-
dinates the production of the maga-

mittal. If you are among the final can-
didates, SSIT may request additional
information. Please do not send your
curriculum vitae at this time.

cation deadline is November 15, 2016.
The selection process is sched-
uled to conclude by February of 2017.
At that time, the chosen candidate
will be appointed as Associate Edi-
tor of the magazine for the remain-
der of 2017. During 2017, the chosen
candidate will progressively assume
more editorial duties and transition
into full editorial responsibility at
the start of 2018.

is provided by Associate Editors and
a Book Review editor.
The position of Editor-in-Chief is a
voluntary, non-salaried position. To
the extent possible, institutional sup-
port for the Editor-in-Chief's expens-
es is sought from the individual's
employer or academic institution. A
modest expense budget is available,
if necessary, to supplement such sup-
port. The Editor-in-Chief is expected
to participate in at least two meetings
of the SSIT's board of governors each
year and to attend ISTAS conferences
when possible. Some financial sup-
port for this travel may be available.
Applicants must submit an appli-
cation letter consisting of the follow-
ing items:
■ A statement of personal interests
in SSIT;
■ A summary of past/current expe-
rience in publications activities;
■ Personal views on SSIT's role
within the IEEE organization;
■ Personal views on SSIT's role
outside the IEEE;
