25 Chapters throughout the world.
I would like to increase this number. My activities in IEEE started
with a Chapter. They offered educational programs, social functions,
and an oppor tunity to network
with people with similar interests.

ISTAS 2019 and GHTC 2019

Volunteers Needed

The International Symposium on
Technology And Society (ISTAS)
2019 is now set for November 15-16,
2019, at Tufts University in Boston, MA, U.S.A. See the Call for

plan to attend.
Also, the IEEE Global Humanitarian Conference (GHTC) is scheduled for October 17-20, 2019, at
the Hilton Seattle Airport Hotel. See

The successful Chapters and Conferences of SSIT are the result of
the efforts of volunteers. We need
more people to help. We also need
a Webmaster. If you can volunteer a
few hours a month, let me know at

Call for Nominations
The Society on Social Implications of Technology is seeking volunteers to serve on its Board of Governors. Candidates are
needed for the positions of President-Elect and Members-at-Large (3). All positions require active membership in the Society.
Additionally, the position of President-Elect must have been a voting member of the Board for at least one year in the previous
six years.
Nominations for either position can be self-nomination or nomination by other with the awareness of the nominee. The
Members-at-Large will serve for three years, 2020-2022. The President-Elect will serve for one year in 2020, then two years as
President in 2021-2022, and for two years as Past-President, 2023-2024. All members on the Board of Governors meet once
per month via a conference call. Additionally, the President will also be required to attend three meetings per year of the IEEE
Technical Activities Board (TAB). Financial support is available for attendance at the TAB meetings.
The Society is looking for but not requiring prior experience in IEEE activities, background in economics, marketing,
conference planning, finances, chapter development, membership development and web updating activities.
We welcome all SSIT members willing to serve the Society in a leadership position. If you are interested, please submit a
synopsis of your experience with emphasis on your strong points. Please include your IEEE Membership Number and contact
information. Submit nominations to nominations chair Paul Cunningham at paul@iimg.com by July 17, 2019.
