Ethics in AI
AI Art: Generative AI can produce various art forms,
including pictures, videos, poetry, or music, which
previously required skilled artists to create. Now,
anyone with the right AI tools and patience can produce
professional-quality art. This raises concerns about artists'
careers, as many already have trouble finding work, and
now people can recreate their services for free. One
prominent example is the film industry, where there is a
growing concern that AI may replace many creative jobs
in order to save money. Additionally, many see AI art as
generic and lacking creativity, since machines make it
without any personal experience or personality. There's
also the issue of copyright, as AI training uses existing
artworks without always having the artists' consent, leading
to uncredited use of their work.
Job Displacement Concerns: As robots and computers
begin to perform tasks previously performed by humans,
some individuals are concerned about their jobs being
replaced by machines capable of performing the same
tasks. This is called job displacement. When this occurs,
new jobs still emerge; for instance, someone needs to
construct, repair, and program the robots! However, these
new jobs and their training don't tend to go to those
whose jobs have been displaced. Instead, they often
go to those who already have the skills or the means to
develop them quickly. This can leave displaced workers
struggling to find new employment, even with new jobs
being available. Job displacement has occurred before, as
new technology makes certain jobs obsolete, but with the
power of AI, many believe it will happen on a larger scale
than ever before.

AI Ethics Mission: The Debate
In the world of AI, singularity refers to a future
time when Artificial Intelligence will become
smarter than humans. This means AI could start
improving itself without any help, becoming super
intelligent and capable of solving problems and
making decisions much faster than we can. If this
happens, it could lead to big changes in the world,
some exciting and some unpredictable. Scientists
debate whether this will happen and how it will
affect humanity. Some computer scientists that
have worked in AI, like Geoffrey Hinton, the
" Godfather of AI, " who led groundbreaking work
on artificial neural networks, believe it could
have negative effects, especially depending on
who uses these AI tools. However, others who
have worked in the field, like Yann LeCun, who's
Meta's chief AI scientist, believe that singularity
could be good for humanity, leading to another
era of enlightenment. Whether it happens or not,
whether it's good or bad for humanity, the very
existence of this idea shows the potential for how
powerful AI could become.

Debate the ethical implications of using
AI with the potential for singularity.
Research the topic of singularity and then divide
it into two teams, with one team supporting the
use of AI even with the risk of singularity and
one opposing it. Each team prepares a 2-minute
opening statement, followed by turns presenting
arguments and rebuttals. The audience can ask
questions, and each team should be ready to
respond thoughtfully. Teams then give 1-minute
closing statements summarizing their key points.
Judging criteria include clarity, evidence, respect,
and persuasiveness. Have a class discussion after
the debate to reflect on the lessons learned and
the significance of ethical considerations in AI.
