HIS PAST SUMMER, I was puzzled when my school newspaper phoned to ask me for an interview. e newspaper typically covers school events and sports competitions, so at rst I couldn’t imagine why they were interested in interviewing me. But they explained that they were writing an article about my recent AP test score. Instead of taking the standard math course o ered, I had arranged with my school to take the CTY Calculus BC course, and scored a 5 (the highest possible) on the corresponding AP test. According to the nished article, that’s not so unusual for students from my school—except that I was 13 years old.
