Comments

This field is for other information pertinent to a particular tree. Because the
information in this field cannot be easily analyzed, the use of comments
should be restricted to critical information (e.g., the location of a branch to
be removed, specific risk mitigation, or the presence of a special situation,
such as a bees' nest). Data collection can be accelerated if a set of frequent
comments is made available in a pull-down menu.

Extra Fields

It is often a good idea to include at least one undefined field so that an
attribute can be added later without additional cost.

Supplemental Information
When selecting attributes from this list, the urban forest manager should
keep in mind that the more data collected, the more the inventory may cost.
Urban forest managers should only select those attributes they intend to use
in their management practices and reporting.

Site Attributes

Information about site conditions can assist in planting programs and predicting life expectancy or ultimate tree size.
* Size: relative volume of the above-ground growing space available
for the tree, or size-class: small (S), medium (M), large (L).
* Soil volume: relative volume of the rooting space available for the
tree, or size-class: small (S), medium (M), large (L).
* Overhead height limitations: utilities such as electric power service
(especially 3-phase), communication, etc.

Other Site Information

Some managers take advantage of field data collection to add other site
attributes (e.g., hardscape damage, underground utilities, etc.). Tree inventory funding has been gained by including other information supported by
a separate funding source.
