K+BB: What design trends are you seeing in
the kitchen and bath industry today in terms of
your own experiences with clients/consumers?

K+BB: What design trends are you seeing in
the kitchen and bath industry today in terms of
your own experiences with clients/consumers?

Pamela Goldstein: Colors - soft creamy neutrals without yellow, orange
or red tones paired with soft blues and greens. Clients are drawn toward
memories of relaxation around water - beaches, lakes, etc.

Paula Kennedy: Heated floors are more mainstream and not just for highend projects. Gray is definitely in and for good reason, and I keep hearing
that someday stainless will be out, but I think that will be a long time coming. Other things I've noticed:
* Banquet seating
* Custom spaces for pets
* Steam and body jets, spas at home
* Aging-in-place considerations
* Organizing spaces, making most
of space they have
* COLOR!
* Transitional style
* Simplicity in the details, even in
traditional looks
* White cabinets
A creative use of color
is trending now.
* No more espresso-stained woods,
back to mid tones but still with a richness
* Gray is definitely in
* Multifunctional options (pullout carts, countertops that move/extend)

K+BB: What are some changes
you see coming?
Goldstein: My clients want a more
detailed discovery phase. They are
choosing products that fit their lifestyle and then are enjoying the design process to make the best use
of their space. Value, ergonomics,
beauty longevity, timelessness and
comfort are all important. They are
considering their lifestyle, looking
for the best value and are most
concerned with ensuring their
family and friends will be enjoying
Kitchen organization by
the space with them. They want

products that provide visual and
emotional warmth; project a relaxed feeling; naturally provide safety,
security and ease of use; and offer a minimal learning curve and minimal maintenance and repair. There will also be many more choices in
appliance lines and models, fresh molding and millwork options, better
organizational options for cabinetry and closets and exciting textures,
colors and materials.

K+BB: What design and product trends
interested you at KBIS 2014?
Goldstein: I did not attend KBIS, but I have researched
the offerings there. What I am noticing is:
* Ease of care, ease of use
* Connectivity allowing flexible location of control
between phone and/or tablet and appliance
* Older methods of cooking are being updated
for American clients, including larger steam

more touch controls and more styling options.

* Moldings are more transitional using depth
changes and subtler patterning to create texture and light-play
shadowing. This new transitional styling provides a new detailed
palate meeting our discerning client's wish for fresh detailed looks,
releasing them from the old and dowdy styling of past homes.
* Plumbing fixtures are using colored lights to identify temperature and
provide another layer of safety and comfort.

K+BB: What design and product trends interested you at
KBIS 2014?
Kennedy: I saw more functional details, aging-in-place options and new
technology with countertops, for example, Silestone Dekton.

K+BB: What are some changes you see coming based on what
you saw at KBIS 2014?
Kennedy: What I see coming are more integrated and hidden appliances
and people downsizing or staying put in a current house. I am seeing
more digital controls in the bathroom, touch and motion sensor faucets
and crazy cool organized drawer systems for bathrooms.
