Goes to...
I love our awards programs because they
give me the opportunity to learn firsthand
from industry experts what the trends are in
terms of kitchen and bath design and products. This year's panel of judges for our Product Innovator Awards had very specific trends
in mind when they chose the lucky winners.
Technology was at the forefront of the
discussion in terms of commercial products
being brought to the residential market and
smartphone applications that give the user the ability to manage and
customize their preferences when it comes to using an appliance or a
shower system. Sustainability is another area staking a claim in our industry, and the judges were impressed with the product selection from
companies that pride themselves on being completely green in terms
of their manufacturing processes, corporate social responsibility, etc.
The judges also felt strongly about products that help those needing
some extra assistance, such as childen, the elderly and people with
physical limitations.
Our bathroom feature focuses on two popular bath trends - spa
elements and ample/creative storage solutions. The kitchen feature
spotlights the conundrum of the give-and-take regarding what clients
insist on keeping and the necessary changes that need to be made.
In our Business Practice column, we talk about dealing with the highmaintenance client, which is what I consider my boyfriend to be. He has
devoted so much time trying to choose paint colors for his house that he
finally hired a color expert to help him out.She laid out all of her selections
after seeing his home, but he thought the gray looked purple on
his wall and that the beige shades looked yellow. Not that there is
anything wrong with this, but I definitely think he is color blind.
In keeping with the aging-in-place needs for today's clients, our Universal Design column discusses how one size my not fit every person's
needs and how the designer took that into consideration when renovating a couple's kitchen.
All Abroad shares the latest tile trends from Cersaie, and last but
not least, our KBIS/Design & Construction Week section is rife with
information on how to get the most out of the event.
