Kennedy chose a cabinet manufacturer who offers
cabinet lines at three different price points. To stay
within the kitchen project's modest budget, she
conﬁgured elements from all categories to create the
perfect combination. Tall pullout pantries surround the
refrigerator, while cabinets with dividers hold cookie
sheets, platters and cutting boards above.

new appliance is the combination speed microwave/convection oven.
Strategically placed next to the refrigerator so the kids can grab something,
put it in the microwave and not get in the way of the work triangle, it replaces the family's traditional microwave and saves energy.
"The busy family loves the idea of having a smaller oven for regular
use," she said. "Plus, they were excited to tell me it only takes four minutes
to make chocolate chip cookies!"

Hits and Highlights
A feature that's one of Kennedy's personal favorites in this bright and
fresh design is the backsplash windows. Situated just under the cabinets
on either side of the range area, the windows allow natural light to pour
into the kitchen. They don't open, but they allow for a little of the outdoors
to come inside.
To visually separate the kitchen from the adjacent living spaces, Kennedy incorporated a raised bar and hung pendant lights from the ceiling.
"I often use decorative lights to help deﬁne spaces," she said.

The new ﬂoor plan placed a sizable mudroom off of the kitchen.
Rather than building a framed-in closet here, Kennedy used large 24-in.
ﬂoor-to-ceiling cabinets with adjustable shelving and hooks. Each family
member has his/her own cabinet for storing shoes, coats, backpacks
and other necessities, which are usually a challenge to organize in a
typical entryway.
"This was a really fun project that allowed me to assemble my top
associates all together in one house," said Kennedy, who refers to this as
her "A-team." "They're the partners I've worked with who have proven their
professionalism, integrity and skill for many years. Plus, they're all NKBA
members."
"It's such a bright and cheery home - the new ﬂow just ﬁts this particular family perfectly," she added. "The owners are truly in love with their
new home, and we must have done a good job because they haven't
unfriended me on Facebook!" n
