The Innovative Showroom Awards will once again be featured at KBIS to honor
retail showrooms and recognize the central role they play in our industry.
The awards will be sponsored by LIXIL Water Technology Americas, which is the
business unit comprised of American Standard, DXV and GROHE.
The 2017 winners will be determined by the Innovative Showroom Advisory
Board, which will select 15 finalists. One winner will be chosen in each of the five
following categories, with one chosen as the overall Innovative Showroom Winner.
a Independent Retail Showrooms (1-5 locations) - Small (1,000- 2,500 sq. ft.)
a Independent Retail Showrooms (1-5 locations) - Medium (2,500 - 5,000 sq. ft.)
a Independent Retail Showrooms (1-5 locations) - Large (5,000 sq. ft.+)
a Multi-Location Retail Showrooms (6+ locations) - Medium (1,000 - 5,000 sq. ft.)
a Multi-Location Retail Showrooms (6+ locations) - Large (5,000 sq. ft.+)
Representatives from each of the showroom finalists will be invited to speak as
part of a panel discussion on showroom innovation on Tuesday, Jan. 10, on the KBISNeXT stage, followed by an awards ceremony announcing each winner and a cocktail
reception. The People's Choice Award will take place after KBIS 2017, allowing the
public to vote for their favorite innovative showroom via the KBIS Facebook page.
KBB spoke with 2016 Independent Large Innovative
Showroom winner, Heather Yoder, showroom designer.
What is the value in this initiative and being part of it?

A lot of us work hard to create showrooms that will be beautiful and practical for our clients, so it's nice to be recognized
for that in this way. I got the opportunity to attend the Innovative Showroom panel during the show and learn from
other showrooms what they are doing and how I can improve.

Why do you feel your showroom won an award for the competition?

What we created is different from any other store in the country. We feature a fully
furnished 1,800-sq.-ft. "Idea House" inside our store that allows clients to explore
and envision products in an actual home setting. Customers often ask if they can
move in! Our Idea House provides inspiration and encourages a complete handson approach; for example, we recommend that clients sit in the freestanding tub
in the master bathroom.
We want our clients to be certain they are making the right choices, and by allowing them to "test drive" the products in an actual home setting, this promotes
better decision making with realistic expectations. We are actually in the process
of planning a remodel of the Idea House for 2017!

Outdoor Living in Full Force
KBIS 2017 will incorporate a variety of outdoor products in
three areas:
THE BACKYARD is just outside
the convention center
where attendees can relax,
eat and see products and
demos from outdoor livingthemed exhibitors.
THE OUTDOOR PRODUCTS AREA is in the middle hall
between the North and South concourses and will feature
several outdoor living product exhibitors. This is where
you can also visit the International Builders' Show Outdoor
Products Area.
THE OUTDOOR DISPLAY AREA will feature vignette display
space for several exhibitors to showcase product in the
Outdoor Products Area.

Sierra Outdoor Designs (Booth S4234) will be exhibiting its

outdoor kitchen cabinetry line (right) in the Outdoor Products Area. The cabinets are made out of 316 marine-grade
stainless steel - one of the highest grades in the industry -
and can be customized with their modular make up. The line
includes such items as grill, refrigerator, sink, base, trash,
bar and corner cabinet units. The cabinets can be adapted
to any brand of accessories or appliances because of their
ﬂexible design, and customers can choose any desired
material for the countertop.
