"I have owned a lot of showrooms in my lifetime, and one thing about
a showroom is that it is very expensive to keep open," said Dresner,
founder of Dresner Design, which launched an Italian-made cabinetry
line just more than a year ago. At the same time, he understood that
clients want to walk in and see design in a natural setting rather than
just looking at samples and colors.
"Ten years ago, I conceived a loft showroom, but I built it out like
a house," he explained. "In the current space, the house aspect takes
precedence, and the cabinetry showroom piece is secondary. I really
wanted to do it for my wife - for her to love."
PLANNING FOR TWO PURPOSES
With the townhouse's traditional setting, Dresner relied on the concept of
"warm modern" to drive the design. His goal was to create a space that felt
both contemporary and comfortable. It would be a look his transitional
clients could live in even if it was a bit too modern for their usual taste, while
his traditional clients would be able to appreciate the style even if they would
not choose to live in it.When planning the home's built-in elements, Dresner
chose cabinetry based on space rather than first identifying cabinets he
wanted to display and then placing them.
In the kitchen, a Corian-topped island of white matte-painted oak
offers storage on both sides with Shaker-style doors that feature a narrow frame and slim Epco stainless steel pulls. Inside, Blum and Grass
drawer box inserts provide organization. The back wall hosts stainless
steel cabinetry to harmonize with the appliances. The range has a builtin hood that is masked by a 16-in.-deep cabinet. Along the stainless
wall, Statuary Venato marble lines the counter and the backsplash.
The master bath continues the style of the kitchen with Statuary Venato
marble on the walls and floors and a mix of flat and Shaker doors, this time
