sustainable products is something we notice in both the full-size and smallspace markets," said Anja Prescher, director of
brand marketing for Bosch Home Appliances.
"Consumers are more aware that a kitchen or
bath of any size can operate like a hub, utilizing
vast amounts of energy and water on a daily basis."
SIMPLE CHANGES

A recent study commissioned by Legrand and
conducted by Nielsen showed that 91 percent of
homeowners say reducing energy is important to
them.Of those homeowners,82 percent know that
better lighting choices in particular could reduce
energy use.
"Our collections are designed with these consumer attitudes and sentiments in mind to improve the control of electricity and reduce consumption," said Amy Hahne, vice president of
marketing at Legrand.
Dimmed lights consume less electricity, which
can allow homeowners to reduce their annual
energy consumption up to 36 percent, and timer
switches can similarly cut energy use by up to 30
percent, according to a study by Legrand. Perhaps
the most influential energy saver in the lighting
industry, however, is LED lighting.
"The advancements in LED lighting over the
past few years have been remarkable, with the best
LED luminaires delivering 90 to 150 emitted
lumens per watt," said Jeff Cunius, vice president
of engineering for CSL/Littman Brands."LEDs
will continue to get better on a day-to-day basis."
Jeanne-Marie Gand, vice president of marketing for Hubbardton Forge, added that recent
innovations have allowed these energy-efficient
bulbs to improve significantly in look and functionality so that homeowners don't have to sacrifice appearance.

"In lighting, we've used LED to take lighting elements from utilitarian to
an integral part of the aesthetic of a piece," she added.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), each American person uses an average of 88 gallons of water a day at home. However,
the study also states that by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances,
homeowners would use at least 20 percent less water.
"Since behavior is hard to break, sustainable design will continually need
to incorporate more built-in or 'use-without-thinking' features that unlock
the sustainable benefit without effort,"said Ronn Jefferson, product manager
at Geberit U.S.
Many of these products - such as low-flow toilets and showerheads - bear
the WaterSense label and are generally 20 percent more water efficient than
other similar products available. Just using WaterSense-labeled faucets can
save up to 700 gallons per year.
"What really matters to the homeowner who uses our faucets is that they
can conserve gallons of water while also reducing water costs each month,
all while not noticing any difference in water pressure,"said David Emmons,
director of marketing for Brasstech, the parent company of Newport Brass.
