The main reason I attend KBIS is to learn about the
latest products, technologies and design trends in my
industry to be a top-notch resource for my clientele. Being part of the Modenus BlogTour 1 is always the
icing on the cake. This year's event was the best yet,
and my biggest takeaway was the incredible people I
met and reconnected with at the show. People sharing
their expertise elevates us all as professionals, and you
can quote me on that!

I always attend KBIS with the mindset of searching for
the inventive brands that have commitments to quality, innovation and problem solving. The Galley Ideal
Workstation 2 was of immediate interest to me, as I
feel it embodies each of these characteristics. The Galley
breaks away from the concept of the work triangle and
opens kitchen design to be about multiple work spaces.
Appliances like steam ovens, combi-unit cooking surfaces and drawer refrigeration used in combination with
Galley workstations fully expand the possibilities and
allow kitchens to be interactive and collaborative spaces.

I thought it was fun to hear Payton Manning open the
week. He was a great speaker!

My absolute favorite thing about KBIS 2017 was seeing all the new products. The design of our showroom
is my responsibility, and seeing new product inspires
me - some of my best pairings or vignettes are from
things I have seen at KBIS. Elkay's booth 3 had some
innovative products, and Brizo's booth had some jawdropping beauties as well.

I enjoyed the 2017 show and took pictures of MasterBrand's Omega line 6 . I love beverage storage, and
these unique custom pieces really showcased the best in
that. Behind the black- painted glass cabinets, the wine
fountain is hidden but is easily accessible to distribute
wine and store more bottles. I also saw a great idea for
a way to set up a coffee bar behind a closed cabinet so as
not to come home to a messy counter.

I enjoyed Danny Seo's laundry room design for Wilsonart 4 and was impressed with Formica's Writeable
Surfaces...great for a kitchen memo wall, office, kid's
room, etc. I also liked the Niagara Stealth Phantom
Toilet at .08 gallons per flush; black, platinum or black
stainless appliance finishes from LF, Frigidaire and
GE; and the ActiClean Toilet from American Standard
As far as the state of the industry, This Old House
teaming with The Mike Rowe Foundation and encouraging young people to enter the housing trades was a
good idea. The current need for new generations of welltrained, talented tradespeople has never been greater.

I was grateful to come to KBIS 2017 as one of the
recipients of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Young Professionals Scholarship 5 . I
was just starting my own business, funds were tight,
and my income was going toward building my new
business. With the scholarship, NAHB paid for my
admission to KBIS as well as my airfare and hotel. There
were several meet-and-greet events planned so that
all the recipients could get to know each other. It was
refreshing meeting other young people in the industry
outside of the NKBA.

Seeing the latest and greatest from familiar manufacturers and new entries to the market is what keeps me
on my toes when it comes to home design. I enjoyed:

new push-to-open refrigeration from Thermador

Eyeing new cabinetry finishes from Decora and
Wellborn

Playing with new multifunction hardware like rotating show racks and flip-down desks from Richelieu

Learning about new plumbing design and technology at Kohler, Toto, Brizo and Danze

Seeing the chopping demo on the new award-winning surface, Geoluxe
I can't wait to go back in 2018!
