The Next Generation is Knocking - Hear What They Have to Say
Sure, you will be introduced to this year's ThirtyUnder30 honorees - the voices of the next generation of kitchen
and bath professionals - during KBIS. But here's your chance to get know something specific about them before
they hit the stage. In our final installment of getting to know the group, we asked each recipient a question
pertaining to each of their experiences so far in our industry - what inspires them, tips for success, greatest
achievements and what they like most about their jobs - just to call out a few.

What got you interested in kitchens and baths at such
a young age?

When my brother and I were little, we went
over to our grandparents' house and watched
them prepare meals; it was as if they were dancing through the kitchen. We grew up in a small
apartment and didn't have a big kitchen, so we
always dreamt of having a space like that one day.
I would sit at the dining table and draw kitchen
layouts. The idea that the sky is the limit in designing a kitchen for someone really draws me in.

My favorite part of managing the Fisher & Paykel
Experience Center is that no two days are alike,
and every day is exciting. We see a diverse and
discerning clientele come through our showroom
doors - homeowners, designers specifying full
suites of appliances for remodels and developers
looking for solutions for multi-unit projects. We
also host events to introduce our brand philosophy
to the kitchen and bath community and explain
what it means to be from New Zealand and the
human-centered design of our appliance lineup.

I was one of the lucky ones in the Florida
Keys. Many people I know lost many of their
personal possessions and homes - some of whom
work for my company, which has been in the area
for more than 50 years. We are prepared for anything nature can throw at us. We were back up
and running a week after the hurricane, helping
as many customers and community members as
possible. It was gratifying to see my community
remain #keysstrong.

When I began with my company in May 2015,
my position was junior designer. I started by
helping the principle designer and then took on
my own clients a year and a half later.Today, I am
a part of the leadership team, helping develop
processes to ensure quality designs and project
management. I am constantly striving to produce
quality projects, which helped me surpass my
annual sales goal of $500,000 in sales by double
within the first half of 2017.

How do you design for ease-of-use?

What success has your NKBA certification brought you so far?

Being AKBD certified has made a great impression because I feel potential clients like to work
with professionals who have been well educated
and certified and are knowledgeable in their field.
I think they feel they can trust me more because
I have this certification. Also, aside from client
recognition, I feel that studying for the AKBD
test helped me gain more knowledge that I truly
use in my day-to-day design tasks.

Social media is such a valuable communication
channel. The key is to always provide helpful
content to your target audience, as well as an additional way to learn more, such as a link to a
website or blog. The kitchen and bath industry
is booming, and your business has to stand out -
especially in a time where a growing number of
consumers are doing research on the value you
can give them by browsing your social accounts.

Ease-of-use is my focus in every design. For small
spaces, you can never have enough lighting or too
many internal accessories. Lately, I've been loving
pull-out cooking utensil organizers neighboring
the range, oversized appliance garages with integrated outlets for easy storage and the use of taller
countertop appliances like mixers and blenders.
Every item should have a home. For large spaces,
I create separate zones for cooking, cleanup and
coffee, and a secondary sink is never a bad idea.

It's tough! We all have families, crazy work
schedules, travel and so much more to fit into 24
hours. I've learned that finding time in my schedule started with asking myself what's most important to me. Although what's most important
to you will certainly change in different seasons
of life, serving others at this stage of my career
has helped me enforce time management, stick
to commitments and especially put life and my
"big" issues back into perspective.

What does your volunteer work entail?

The feeling of being part of something that is
doing good in the world is very fulfilling. One organization I volunteer for is the Cinequest Film
Festival in San Jose, Calif. I believe it is so important to have a relationship with the humanities
and live in a city that appreciates and stimulates
the arts. I also volunteer during the holidays at
the Second Harvest Food Bank. Even if it's just
sorting out rotten apples, I know I'm playing a
small role in a big difference in someone's life.
