CREATING CONTRAST IN THE GUEST BATH
This bathroom (pictured above and above right)
serves as a shared bathroom for his office, as well
as guests. Along with white, the design team likes
to add a little black where they can, and in this
bathroom it was used for the doors, in the liner
around the marble and granite floor tiles, in the
liner on the wainscoting and on the mirror frame.
The gray shower tiles are a nice contrast to the
white subway tiles and really wake up the space.
FAVORITE SPACES
What was once a crowded three-fixture bathroom is now the couple's favorite
bathroom in the house (below left). They removed the shower, enlarged the
window and installed an open washstand to create a spacious powder room
for the firm's office, which is attached to the house but has a separate entrance.
"Because this bathroom was renovated more recently - and we all get
better at what we do - it looks more sophisticated with its polished chrome,
woven black wallpaper, touches of white and polished Carrara elements,"
said Urrutia, who explained that visitors to their office always say how much
they love this powder room.
The design team chose polished stone for the bathroom floors because
Urrutia says it makes the space feel shinier, cleaner and happier. As for the
marble countertop, it is cleaned weekly and sealed annually - a simple process
for any homeowner.
The office oasis (pictured below) is another favorite part of the property,
with its sweeping views of Alcatraz, Oakland and San Francisco Bay. The
main space where the husband and wife team collaborate with clients is their
favorite, as it has windows on three walls with great views everywhere.
