J A P A N E Z E N S E A designer renovates a tight master bath into a spa-like haven with a wet room By Chelsie Butler LEFT & ABOVE The designer chose the tile - a mix of white and bronze marble in various patterns - before all the other elements in this master bath, explaining that it has an imperfect but sophisticated feel about it. A PREVIOUS BATHROOM WAS SEGMENTED into various smaller spaces, including a room with a toilet and a bath/shower combo, a vanity room and another shower in between. The clients wanted to open up their master and make it feel more expansive and improve storage with separate hisand-hers closets. Instead of creating a typical closed-in shower with a separate tub, designer Meghan Browne of Chevy Chase, Md.-based Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen & Bath decided to maximize the space and create one wet room with the shower open to the therapy tub area. "The clients had visited Japan several times and were accustomed to this open-concept tub and shower layout," she said. "They quickly came on board with idea of the wet room, and since we weren't restricted to having a shower completely enclosed, we were able to create a large one without sacrificing space." 51
