This decision too can be somewhat ambiguous, but
most of the pros we spoke to - and their clients -
want to see something in the store or showroom to
better help them source products. This gives both
parties a chance to learn about how appliances and
plumbing fixtures work, and they can actually see
what a certain tile pattern looks like up close.
"Online is just not enough of an experience for
my liking, and the same goes for my clients," said
Clement. "It's too much of an investment not to
see and feel, for the most part."

product selection, including placing orders directly
with vendors through established relationships and
using online sources to locate items not readily
available in a certain area. Godeau and his team
order high-end appliances and custom cabinetry

"Having the products sourced before
construction bidding helps everyone realize
the total price. Many upcharges happen on
the contractor side when a product is not
picked ahead of time, and there may be more
specialty work involved with installing it than
what was expected."

Green likes to work with local showrooms and manufacturers in her area so
she can easily source samples to show her clients, and she can also have a faceto-face discussion about such things as installation.
"Some items I like to find at trade shows and trade-only showrooms," she
added."Clients like to have a wow factor and see things they couldn't find on
their own, and these are usually the places where I find those."
For online sourcing, Green says she usually does that when there are budget
constraints for a project or if she is already familiar with the product. She also
uses online tools to research brands, read reviews and gain installation tips.
"As far as how you source for products for your kitchen and bath projects,
this is always a complex conversation," said Switzer. "My collaborative efforts have been really effective to keep communication open with all parties
involved. The experience needs to fit everyone's personalities to make a
positive outcome."
