A plethora of custom elements, including the
cabinetry with 3D millwork, beams, lighting and
breakfast area chairs, complete the look of this
luxury kitchen, which also features top-of-the-line
appliances. In terms of functional add-ons, Davies
and her team created a custom coffee bar out of
white oak just behind the kitchen.
MASTER BATH SANCTUARY

Much like the former kitchen, the previous master
bath sported a dysfunctional layout and did not
make the most of the beautiful views outside.The
clients wanted the segmented space to transform
it into a spa-like retreat with an open floor plan
that still maintained some privacy.
Davies created a clean, sparkling bathroom
that is all about reflecting light. She used a mother of pearl tile on the walls, as well as bright white
Thassos marble in a herringbone pattern for the
floors. A huge soaking tub, which the wife uses
often, sits in front of the panoramic windows.
For the lighting, the designer chose sconces and
a hand-blown chandelier with a modern and
funky feel.

The entire house was completely reconfigured with the
state-of-the-art Crestron system. According to Davies, the
client can electronically lower
the shades in the master bath,
control the music and answer
the door from her tub.

"We wanted options that would make a statement but not steal the show
from the view," she said.
The spa-like feeling continues with a large walk-in shower, double custom
vanities and a walk-in closet with a built-in dressing table. Heated floors,
towel bars and a smart toilet provide added comfort in the luxe master bath.
CHALLENGES & LESSONS LEARNED

According to Davies,the clients were reluctant to do a full gut renovation,but once
she and her team started the work after drawing up an initial concept, they saw
the true potential of the house and knew it needed to be a design-build project.
"With the budget they were already planning on, it made more sense to
give them a brand-new home," she added.
Another issue arose with the transition of the wood beams from the
kitchen into the family room and the location of the 12.5-ft. Nanowall, which
expands into both.The design team solved this by creating a false soffit, which
also serves as a built-in valance to house the family room window panels and
tie the two spaces together.
Everything in the entire home was replaced, with the exception of the tub
in the girl's bathroom, which now looks out of place. Davies said they should
have replaced it too since it is the one item you can tell was left behind.
"Because this project evolved as we were in the process of renovating, we
kept this original tub, as it was newer than most of the items in the dated
home," she added. "This was done to save on the budget, but now that all the
elements in that bathroom are brand new, it shows its age."
