THE RIGHT TUB

The formerly framed-in, jetted tub was difficult
for the homeowners to climb into, in addition to
blocking access to the window shades and taking
up unnecessary space. And while the new freestanding soaking tub would be in the same location as the jetted unit, the original plumbing was
off center. Since this tub is the centerpiece of the
bathroom and is located under the main window,
it was essential for the tub filler to also be centered.
"It took a little extra work and money to move
the plumbing and allow for a centered, deckmounted tub filler," said Leferink, adding that
the calm symmetry at the end - despite the extra
cost and labor - was worth the effort.
The freestanding tub itself was carefully chosen
by the homeowners to suit their style and personal
comfort, as well as their budget. Since this project
happened before the COVID-19 pandemic, the
clients were able to visit a showroom in person and
easily sit in the different tubs to find their best fit.
"Of course, wearing masks and being able to go
in only by appointment is the way we will need to
operate for now," said Leferink, who emphasized

of blue-gray color that feels
nature inspired.

important selections in person at the showroom.
NATURAL INSPIRATIONS

For the serene appeal the clients desired, the design
team used easy-to-clean, neutral-toned selections
like white quartz countertops for the vanity and
gray porcelain floor tiles.It was also important to the
clients to include products inspired by nature. This
comes into play with details like bronze light fixtures
and rounded edges on the marble shower wall tile,
which give the shower a softer, more natural look
compared to pencil-edge pieces or metal edging.
However, the most dramatic natural reference
in this bathroom is the wallpaper. Done with gold,
taupe, gray and cream colors, the wallcovering adds
a personal touch with its abstract floral pattern.
"Our client is a master gardener, and the bathroom looks out onto one of the gardens," said the
designer, explaining the inspiration behind this
surface material, which additionally was chosen
to add drama and color to the otherwise neutral
space. "The wallpaper was a statement we think
makes the bathroom extra special."

