This bronze sculpture has a natural patina
that complements its abstract design.
Located near the entrance to the Festival
of Arts and Pageant of the Masters,
art-goers and passersby can interpret
the unique design. "The sculpture was
inspired by two different ideas. Using the
latter idea, I decided to call the sculpture
'Second Thought,'" Herbert said.

Mary Ellen has an affinity for
nature. While she creates
abstract works, her representational pieces are more
prevalent, including this
mural. "It's a montage of
California - the orange grove,
the mission, the water and
the ridge - all tie into the history of California," Mary Ellen
explained. The second panel
pays homage to the Asian
field workers, who once
cared for the abundant
orange groves. "That's part
of the history of Southern
California too."

Created by San Diego artist Doug Snider,
these colorful works capture the energy
and excitement of the Civic Arts and Art
Festival District. Created of concrete, these
hand-molded benches are functional artistic forms that herald the entrances to the
Art-A-Fair and Sawdust Art Festivals.
