The Bacardí rum story begins in
1862, when Facundo Bacardí Masso
and his brother José established
a distillery in Cuba. Bacardí left
Cuba after the Castro regime
nationalized private property but
continued distilling elsewhere. The
company is still family owned, now
in its seventh generation and is
headquartered in Bermuda.
For a full taste of Bacardí genius,
try Bacardí Black, a medium-bodied
black rum, aged in heavily charred
oak barrels, sent through a secret
blend of charcoals and skillfully
blended. Look for sweet, tropical
fruit, buttery caramel and vanilla
notes that give way to a smoky
licorice and molasses finish.
Bacardi 8 Años is aged for at
least eight years in oak barrels
and blended. The finished product
offers a refined flavor with notes of
prune, apricot, nutmeg and vanilla
over a woody background of oak.

The famed New York City bartender
Audrey Saunders created the Old
Cuban as the perfect showcase for
Bacardí 8 rum.

2/3 PART SIMPLE SYRUP
½ PART FRESH LIME JUICE
6 MINT LEAVES
2 DASHES ANGOSTURA
BITTERS

PROSECCO
In a cocktail shaker, combine mint
leaves, lime juice and simple syrup;
gently muddle the mixture. Pour in
the Bacardí 8 Años rum, Angostura
bitters and ice. Place the lid on the
shaker and shake well. Strain the
mix into a coupe glass and top with
prosecco. Garnish with mint leaves.

CARIBBEAN RUM

A. Smith Bowman Distillery in

Fredericksburg commemorates the
early American colonists. George
Bowman is a true Demerara rum,
made from sugarcane grown to
make molasses, and then distilled
on the banks of the Demerara River
in Guyana. There in Guyana, the
spirit is aged in used oak barrels,
utilizing the Caribbean heat to
garner a dark color and full flavor.
Finally, it's imported to A. Smith
Bowman for final processing and
bottling.
Like other Demerara rums,
George Bowman presents a smoky,
earthy and savory flavor that
combines with unique molasses
characteristics. Look for coconut
and vanilla notes, followed by
molasses, honey and brown
sugar. Enjoy it neat or in flavorful
cocktails.

1 OZ. LIME JUICE
½ OZ. SIMPLE SYRUP
1 TABLESPOON OF YOUR
FAVORITE VIRGINIA PRESERVES
▷ 2 DASHES ORANGE BITTERS
Shake all ingredients and strain
over ice. Garnish with a candied
orange.

GOSLING'S
BLACK SEAL
DARK RUM
The Gosling family has been
making and selling rum since
1860. Originally sold directly
from the barrel to customers'
bottles, the family began bottling
this thick, rich rum in the early
20th century in used Champagne
bottles, finishing with black sealing
wax. Customers began asking for
the "black seal," which led to the
whimsical logo and the name.
Black Seal Dark Rum is
distinctive, fragrant and herbal,
touched with butterscotch, vanilla,
caramel and a touch of char.

DARK 'N' STORMY
Gosling's holds the trademark for
this cocktail, so if you get a ginger
beer and rum cocktail without
Gosling's, it's just not a Dark 'n'
Stormy!
▷ 5 OZ. GOSLING'S STORMY
GINGER BEER
▷ 1 ½ OZ. GOSLING'S BLACK SEAL
RUM
In a tall glass filled with ice,
add 4 to 5 ounces of Gosling's
Stormy Ginger Beer and top
with Gosling's Black Seal Rum.
Garnish with a lime wedge
(optional).

CRUZAN DARK
RUM
The name, Cruzan, reflects this
rum's origins: pronounced "Kruzhun," like "Crucians," the residents
of St. Croix. Now owned by BeamSuntory, the business was crafted by
the Nelthropp family in the 1800s.
The Cruzan Estate 2-year dark
rum blends rums aged from two to
four years in American oak barrels,
resting in open-air warehouses
kissed by warm, tropical breezes.
The rum is smooth, mediumbodied and aromatic, with notes of
vanilla, oak and spice.
