I recently had the honor of
celebrating the opening of Russell
County's first ABC store. Located in
the Southwestern part of our state
in the town of Lebanon, the store
isn't too far from my alma mater,
Emory & Henry College.
When I was a student one of the best
things about fall, besides football
games, autumn colors and socials,
Chairman Painter
was the cooler weather which was
a harbinger of the upcoming holidays. And holidays in the Painter/Dodson home
were festive occasions that included food, family and cocktails.
In this issue we've interviewed chefs from four of Virginia's finest historical resorts
including The Homestead and The Jefferson. They've shared their recipes for oyster
stuffing, Beef Wellington, gorgonzola risotto and other favorites. Perhaps you'll be
inspired to re-create one of these dishes for your own holiday meal. Of course, each
dish is paired with a cocktail!
If you'll be entertaining a crowd, get out your grandmother's old punch bowl and
mix up one of our punch-bowl recipes such as Holiday Cranberry Punch that
includes vodka and Grand Marnier. If you're a wine lover, check out our other
recipes that use sparkling or red wine. We've even included a recipe for Peppermint
Egg Nog Punch.
Fall is the also perfect time to restock your home bar. See our story for good, better,
best recommendations on spirits that will fit every budget. We've also included a
list of 10 must-have bar tools. Who knew that a channel knife was so handy?!
If you're thinking about gift giving, one of the hottest new trends is Japanese
