The Clifton Forge School of the
Arts offers a variety of classes and
programs for children and adults

CLIFTON FORGE SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

three-story Reynolds Studio building. On
summer Friday mornings, the main building
is alive with children moving from station to
station: painting and drawing and dancing
and sculpting and building.
A place where people could come to
learn fine and applied arts was the dream
of Henrietta Crandall, Helen Kostel, and
Louise Belmont, who began planning for
CFSOTA in 2007. In January 2011, the doors
opened to students wanting instruction in
painting, drawing, sculpture, woodworking
and blacksmithing. Seven years later,
those classes are still being taught, along
with ones in clay, quilting, embroidery,
applique, fused and stained glass, knitting

and crochet, oshi-e, barn-quilt painting,
stone carving, photography, piano, trumpet,
string instruments, sound immersion
and meditation, and chair and mat yoga.
Scholarships are available for students
needing assistance. You can custom-schedule
a class upon request.
Two festival markets are held at CFSOTA
each year: Kriskindlmarkt (a German-style
market the weekend before Thanksgiving)
and The MayFaire (a spring gift and garden
market the first weekend in May).
The CFSOTA is a Highlands hub for the
arts, in all their multifaceted glory. Take a tour
of the two buildings, the Mill, and the Garden.
It's creativity in action, and yours to enjoy.
