Arts Council
65 Continuous Years of Performing Arts
Since 1953, The Alleghany Highlands Arts
Council has brought some of the best talent
in the country to the Highlands. Violinist
Daniel Heifetz. The Royal Shakespeare
Company. The Berlin Chamber Orchestra.
The Richmond Ballet and the Barter Theatre.
Bluegrass star Rhonda Vincent and Country/
Rock artist Charlie Daniels. Actors Ed Asner,
Ben Vereen, Loretta Swit, Cindy Williams,
John Amos and David Birney. The Lula
Washington Dance Theatre and the Joffery II.
The council's commitment to education
shines in the Young People's Theatre
Series, which each year brings education
through performance to local schools.
Local performers are encouraged through
participation in the Alleghany Highlands
Chorale and the Alleghany Community
Theatre.

Past performances sponsored by the Arts
Council have included Plunky and Oneness
and the Roanoke Symphony Holiday Pops
at Covington High School, as well as three
performances at the Historic Masonic
Theatre: 3 Redneck Tenors, Rhythms of the
Dance and the Young Irish Tenors, and the
Richmond Ballet.
