If you're looking for historical documents
and artifacts, you'll want to spend time at the
Alleghany Historical Society and the nearby
Genealogical Society in Covington.
The Historical Society features rotating
exhibits, a permanent train display, historic
documents and a gift shop in the beautifully
restored 1908 C&O Railway Covington Depot
and adjoining 1890 passenger station.
Currently, a major project just down the
street is drawing those interested in the
industrial heritage of western Virginia. The
Alleghany Highlands Industrial Heritage and
Technology Discovery Center will open its
doors in four restored storefronts on North
Maple Avenue. When completed, visitors will
find displays of the Highlands iron industry
