TOP AND ABOVE LEFT: The AHS Robotics Club and Alleghany High School ABOVE RIGHT: Dabney S. Lancaster Community College classroom often overlooks: public speaking, punctuality, technology management, personal responsibility and community engagement. While project-based learning is nothing new in Virginia, Alleghany High School is part of the New Tech Network, a collection of schools stretching across the United States dedicated to the idea that the goal of education should be to create a well-rounded graduate. In the fall of 2019, Alleghany High School will become the first fully integrated New Tech School in the Commonwealth, which means every student in grades nine through 12 will have the same opportunity to study under the newest and best practices the educational field has to offer. To support these initiatives, Alleghany County Public Schools committed to a 1:1 technology initiative that places a computer or tablet in the hands of every student in the system. It's this kind of technological support and focus on innovation that has led to the creation of the Robotics Club at AHS.
