He's auditing his VWCC class, rather than taking it
for credit, so he didn't have to qualify from an income
standpoint. "I'm not after a degree," he insists. "I have
two of those (photography and graphic arts, 'neither of
which I've ever used'). The philosophy class is for my
own edification, to keep my brain working and to get
me out of the house on a regular basis."

He would, he says, "highly recommend classes for
older students. In the fall, I plan on taking maybe a
world history course or comparative religion or maybe
a science course like geology."

choose and you can do that through the admissions

Virginia Tech; 540-831-5271 at Radford; and (540) 6743603 at New River Community College. The Roanoke
Higher Education Center features a number of classes
from state colleges, as well.
Officials at the Higher Education Center in Roanoke
say each of the state universities with branch classes
there is different. Virginia Tech, for example, does not
offer free graduate classes, but has Facts and Snacks
