The LOVEwork project kicked off in 2011 as part of
our state's iconic Virginia is for Lovers slogan. Since
then, more than 200 of these clever creations have
sprouted up around the Commonwealth, each with
its own distinct vibe.
Visitors are encouraged to use the artwork as a
backdrop for photos to share on the Virginia is for
Lovers Facebook page, and on Instagram and Twitter
using the hashtag #loveva.
Trust us, these are some of the top Instagram-worthy
spots you'll find in and around the region!
For the newest addition, look no further than the
windows at the Smith Mountain Lake Visitor Center at
Bridgewater Plaza. Painted by local artist Lisa Floyd.
The artwork showcases many of the lake's most
popular landmarks and attractions.

for a photo opp with the sculpture and the fuzzy
friends who hang out nearby.
Franklin County features three other LOVEworks, all in
the Rocky Mount area. Scoot down the street to the
farmers market where you'll find life-sized letters that
incorporate important aspects of the county's heritage
- agriculture, music and moonshine. Nearby Waid
Recreation Area includes a hybrid LOVEwork among
its many family friendly outdoor amenities.
Local high school students designed the LOVEwork at
the Bedford Welcome Center. The colorful sculpture
highlights some of the area's many tourism
attractions, including Smith Mountain Lake, the Peaks
of Otter, Poplar Forest and the National D-Day
Memorial.

Just down the road at Westlake Towne Center is the
lake's first LOVEwork, created in 2016. Each life-sized
letter represents a different SML activity: watersports,
golf, fishing and boating.

Nearby is Bedford's other LOVEwork, which was
created by local artists and staff members at Peaks of
Otter Winery, a 6th generation family farm.
Constructed primarily out of repurposed pallets and
empty wine bottles, the six-foot tall sculpture also
includes a large fiberglass apple.

Also in the Westlake area you'll find a patriotic
LOVEwork with a twist: It's located on a working
