With our scenic views, temperate weather and extensive dock-and-dine
options, outdoor dining has always been popular at Smith Mountain Lake no
matter what the season. And with health concerns on the front burner,
restaurants here have made alfresco options even more accessible.
When the pandemic hit in
early 2020, long-time SML
residents Bruno and Tiffany
Silva, owners of The Landing
Restaurant, observed
some families and seniors
struggling to put nourishing
meals on the table. Soon,
The Landing Love Project
was born with the Silvas,
their staff and a dedicated
corps of volunteers
preparing and delivering
hundreds of meals to those
in need several times per
week.

The project soon expanded
to address literacy
challenges by providing
mentoring and tutoring
assistance for children
and adults. In the fall, the
Silvas received a $100,000
matching-gift donation from
lake residents Michelle and
David Baldacci to expand
the services.

continuing to make open-air accommodations a priority, adding comfortable,
