winter. Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Shamrock 4 Miler on March 14. Tap
your feet to the tunes at Music on the Lawn, held Sundays in April at the Martha
Washington Inn & Spa. Or hit the Virginia Creeper Trail or Appalachian Trail with other
hikers and bikers enjoying the warmer weather and gorgeous views.
For more music, as well as arts and crafts, head to Heartwood, Southwest Virginia's
Artisan Center. It's where Crooked Road jam sessions occur every Thursday and
regional juried artists and craftsmen showcase and sell their handiwork. Both the
center's coffee and wine bar and restaurant offer local food and drink.
As the historic Barter Theatre celebrates 81 years, it's the perfect time to catch
a show. Each season, this official State Theater of Virginia pleases audiences with
comedies, dramas and everything in between. See "Don't Cry for Me, Margaret
Mitchell" (Jan. 31-May 10), "I Do, I Do, I Do" (Feb. 27-May 10) and many more live
performances during the 2014 season.
