David Bowers. For a couple of
eight-year spans, David Bowers was
the mayor of Roanoke, the beloved
"Star City" of Virginia. Now an attorney with a private practice, this native
of Cortland, New York, remains robust
in his love for the Roanoke Valley. He
is out of politics-for now. But who
knows, he says-he may foray into
that arena again.
Where do you like to go? Mill
Mountain, Roanoke Virginia. "From
Mill Mountain, you get the spectacular, one-of-a-kind, multi-billiondollar view of Roanoke and the Roanoke Valley ... There are 10 miles of
trails up on the mountains. Over
the past 20 years, we've developed
those trails and maintained them."
April Danner. Starting as
a volunteer at Historic Smithfield
about a decade ago, April Danner
eventually knew there was no escaping the 1770s home standing on
the outskirts of the Virginia Tech
campus at Blacksburg. Now in her
40s, Danner runs the historic site in
southwest Virginia as the museum
administrator.
Where do you like to go?
Historic Smithfield. "I'm a big fan
of the cemetery, so if people have
the chance and can, walk over to
that beautiful cemetery."
